Um, no, sorry, the Miami bloggers will NOT be gathering
I got a weird e-mail link to this weird invite yesterday, and I ignored the living shit out of it. This morning, when Christian and Rick have posts about it (and so do probably a bunch of other bloggers I haven’t looked at yet – Fanless is my first stop when he has a new post, and Rick is comprehensive, hence my checking there to see if anyone else noticed it), I dug it out of my inbox trashcan and took another look.
So, yes, hi guys! I agree with Rick: this is a great idea. I also agree with Rick that it’s mainly great at getting your restaurant, vineyard, or whatever it is, some inexpensive publicity. Clever.
But no. You don’t get to throw the big party where all the Miami bloggers finally get together. Too many of us are anti-corporate, some of us are adamantly anonymous, and most of us have an aversion to the 33139 zip code. I have hung out with a few of the Miami bloggers, and I’m sure we’ll have more things where more of us get together. But when it’s organized by some out-of-town corporate interest, I don’t think I’m the only one who’s going to be able to find something more interesting to do.

Two words: Viral marketing.
Yeah, I think you hit the nail on the head for me. I’d rather do a gathering when we actual bloggers agree to do it or one/some of us plans it. And even then, I’d prefer something casual.
Actually, let me correct myself. I meant I’d prefer something non-SoBe, because the whole SoBe thing is just too intimidating for me. That’s it, I think. I would want to go if it was at a pub or any place that doesn’t usually cater to the glamorous people.
I personally found it very interesting and investigated it a bit more. Maybe I’m changing my tune to the commercial side of it if it can benefit me in some way. Of course, just getting free wine isn’t the result.
At the Stormhoek Winery we have a very casual Stormhoek Winery style, that is all about letting people lay back in Stormhoek Winery style, while enjoying the fine products of Stormhoek Winery. Stormhoek Winery does not mean this as a marketing ploy of Stormhoek Winery…
I figured since they are trying so hard I’d help them out. I think the SF blog community is a bit too crunchy (in a good way) for Stormhoek Winery and the blatant efforts to use us as part of their marketing. Or are we? ;)
I’m still vacillating, John. Maybe I’m just a tired, frumpy-feeling mom who’s looking for any excuse to put makeup and heels on…
Also, the winery’s name is unfortunate, in that all I can think about when I see it is Ren Hoek (Ren & Stimpy).

When I want to have a meeting with Miami bloggers, I just walk into Alesh’s office and interrupt him while he’s “working.” And I always get free whine.
I got one of those too…seemed kind of strange. Glad I’m not the only one.

Dude. the idea here is that all of us can get together, chit chat, have a godo time, whatever. WHO FREAKING CARES who’s putting it on. Hezbollah could be hosting the event and I wouldn’trally care. I live 50 minutes form the beach but do I care? no. If you all start not going just because you don’t like the idea of the peopel throwing it getting publicity, you are missing the point. Its a freaking party, not a political satement. Chill out, come to the party, have a good time, and rant about how much you hate the establishment on your blog. but for one night, can we all just get together and have some drinks? they’ve taken the logistical guesswork out of it for us and for that, who cares if they get a free plug? I, for one, am looking forward to this party and hopw as many of you as possible attend.
